Old Advice Is Still Good Advice

Some advice is so good that it is timeless. One such piece of advice - attributed to Benjamin Franklin in the 18th century and Hall of Fame college basketball coach John Wooden in the 20th - is that "by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail."

A similar pieces of advice handed down through the generations is "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."

These are both piece of advice that business owners, executives, and board members must take to heart.

Time machines do exist. Sort of.

Business owners, entrepreneurs and others who find themselves in legal disputes often say things like "if only I had known, I would have _____." You can't fire up a time machine to take advantage of 20/20 hindsight, but you can take steps along the way to prevent or lessen the likelihood of future legal problems.

For example, creating an LLC can safeguard your personal assets in the event of a business dispute. Creating a strong partnership agreement can prevent a dispute with a business partner from spiraling into protracted litigation. Last, but not least, taking the time to have your contractual agreements reviewed before signing them can prevent costly breach of contract suits from stonewalling your future progress.

It may be possible to do some of these things on your own, but working with a proven law firm can ensure you get things started off on the right foot as you pursue your business interests and safeguard your personal interests.
